The concealed firearm program has seen incredible growth over the past few years. In 2007 an average of 2300 applications were received each month. In 2008 that jumped to 3700 applications per month and now in 2009, so far, an average of 8100 applications have been received in the first 3 months. The 24,300 applications received so far in 2009 has exceeded the total number received in the year 2007. There was a steady increase in applications in 2008, but in November and December those numbers began to skyrocket. An average of 3440 applications were received during January thru October of 2008, but from November 2008 to the present (March 2009) the average has jumped to almost 7000 applications on average a month. It is anticipated that the number of applications received in calendar year 2009 will be between 70,000 and 80,000.
