Effective September 2, 2008, the Driver License Division will only be offering the written exam in English. This change is in regards to Utah Law 53-3-206(1)(c) and to ensure the safety of the driver license examiner and applicant. To assist in the testing process, applicants may bring a translation dictionary (no electronic devices allowed) with them when taking the written exam. Upon successful completion of the written exam, the applicant will be required to pass a driving test. Authorized third party testers may offer the driving test in other languages. For a list of authorized testers, visit our web site at www.driverlicense.utah.gov.
For those individuals that have already obtained a Utah driving privilege, they will not be required to re-take the written test unless their privilege has been suspended, revoked or denied. Also, if the individual has been convicted of 2 or more moving violations within the previous year or more than 4 in the previous five years, they will be required to re-take the written test.
