Criminal Identification

Law Enforcement trained on UCJIS.

March 2, 2009

Twelve months ago, DPS developed new transactions that allow law enforcement officers to write search warrants using the Utah Criminal Justice Information System (UCJIS). These warrants can then be transmitted electronically to an on-call judge, who is able to review and electronically sign the search warrant, greatly speeding up the process of obtaining a warrants.

For the past year, BCI personnel has been training law enforcement around the state on how to use UCJIS to write search warrants. Hundreds of officers have been trained and there has been great success with the warrant transactions. Warrants have been submitted, signed, and returned in under 10 minutes, where before, the process would routinely take hours.
