This section is devoted to the detection, development, enhancement, and comparison of impression evidence. Types of impression evidence that the lab is capable fo testing includes:
We also have the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) which is able to search the western part of the United States through the Western Identification Network - (WIN). Unsolved cases are submitted to AFIS for a computerized search against fingerprint records in a ten state region using WIN.
The Impression evidence section is equipped with various chemical methods that are designed to develop latent prints on various surfaces. In addition, digital imaging assists Examiners to enhance images, make enlargements, and prepare courtroom displays.
