Highlights

A successful event with no crashes involving drugs or alcohol. The following day, a citizen took the time to write this on the UHP Web site.

"I was involved in the check point in Wendover, Ut this past weekend. I forgot to thank the officer that we had. But I would like to thank all of them for keeping our highways safe. It was really nice to drive home knowing that we would not have to deal with drivers unfit for the long ride to Salt Lake. Thanks again for a Great Job and I hope I can see more of these.”

The DUI sobriety checkpoint took place Friday night October 16, 2009 in Wendover, Utah. 40 police officers from the
Utah Highway Patrol, Tooele County Sheriff’s Office and the Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division participated in this event. This event involved officers working the DUI checkpoint as well as patrolling Interstate-80 throughout the night looking for impaired drivers.

In summary, over 500 vehicles entered the checkpoint with 34 arrests, 38 citations and 137 warnings given to motorists.

On October 29, 2009, a corporal stopped a rental vehicle out of California on I-80 at milepost 101 in Salt Lake County. While waiting for records check to return, he deployed K-9 Tank. A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed 45 lbs of high grade marijuana. Another outstanding traffic stop by one of our troopers. K-9 Tank continues to excel as one of the best K-9's in the State of Utah.
