Box Elder Weather:

At least 48 crashes and slide-offs were reported in Box Elder County last weekend. At least eight semi trucks rolled or were completely disabled on I-84 north of Tremonton. Multi vehicle crashes also occurred on I-15 near the Perry Port of Entry. Troopers from Cache, Weber, and Davis Counties were called to assist. Officers from Perry, Brigham City, Willard, and the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.

DUI Sobriety Checkpoints & Blitzes:

Troopers participated in two DUI checkpoints and enforcement blitzes last weekend. The Layton Police Department hosted the Friday night (Mar. 14) checkpoint. Layton PD, UHP, North Salt Lake PD, and Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division participated. 13 individuals were arrested for DUI. No DUI arrests were made at the checkpoint location. Trooper Lisa Steed arrested four individuals for DUI in a five hour time frame.

The Saturday night (Mar. 15) effort was hosted by the West Valley Police Department. Seven DUI arrests were made at the checkpoint location, along with another 10 as part of the enforcement blitz. West Valley PD, UHP, South Salt Lake PD, Draper PD, and the Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division participated.

Aero Bureau:

The Aero Bureau helicopter has assisted at least five different law enforcement agencies since the beginning of the month. The assistance has involved a drug warrant search, photographing a shooting scene, helping with raid photos, searching for a fleeing felon, etc.

DUI Squad:

During the week of March 10-16 the DUI Squad made 10 DUI related arrests. Squad members stopped 109 cars during the week. Two warrants, totaling $10,747 were served during the week. The DUI Squad participated in the enforcement blitzes hosted by Layton PD and West Valley PD.
