
This course emphasizes proper emergency vehicle operation techniques for optimal
officer safety.
Course Direction:
This course is designed for the in-service officer for ongoing professional development.
This course is not intended for basic training cadets. The scenario based
portion of this course will provide the student with feedback and
assessment. This course is one of a three part series and will be
taught on a closed course.
Required Equipment:
The officer should bring an approved DOT helmet. However, if one is not available,
POST will provide one. Department vehicles will be used during this training.
Learning Objectives:
The following topics will be presented and, discussed and reinforced during the
driving portion of training:
• Early skid recognition
• Backing
• Managing all sides of your vehicle
• Steering techniques
• Hazard recognition
• Proper scanning
• Off-road recovery
• Basic evasive
