DPS Statement on Baton Rouge

In response to the attack on Baton Rouge Police officers, Commissioner Keith Squires has directed the Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Statewide Information and Analysis Center (SIAC) to gather relevant information in real time from around the country and keep Utah law enforcement informed in regards to the attack on officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

At the request of the Ohio State Police, this week the Commissioner will send the Utah DPS Public Protection Unit to Cleveland, Ohio to assist with security during the Republican National Convention. There is a heightened level of alert surrounding that event. The nation’s fusion centers will be sharing information from state to state to ensure this attack is not part of a broader threat to police officers.

Currently, there is no information at this time to indicate that this tragic incident in Baton Rouge is tied to a specific threat in our state or elsewhere. The SIAC, also referred to as the Fusion Center, will continue to monitor the situation.
