UPDATE: I-15 Meth and Marijuana Seizures

On August 22, 2016 at approximately 1:30 PM a Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) Trooper stopped a vehicle in Washington I-15 meth seizure August 2016County near St. George for speeding.During the stop the trooper became suspicious of criminal activity and requested a UHP K9 crew to respond.  On arrival, the K9 gave an indication on the vehicle and a subsequent search revealed a hidden compartment in the back of the vehicle that contained 18 packages weighing approximately 28 pounds of suspected methamphetamine. The load of drugs was picked up in Los Angeles and was en route to Michigan. The investigation is ongoing and is being handled by the Department of Public Safety’s State Bureau of Investigation.

A separate traffic stop was made Thursday, August 25 for a traffic violation on I-15 in Washington County when the Trooper detected the odor of marijuana.  The Trooper conducted a search which resulted in the discovery of 370 pounds of high-grade unnamedmarijuana in plastic trash bags in the rear cargo area.  The State Bureau of Investigation responded and learned the 41 year old male was transporting the marijuana from the San Diego area to Philadelphia.  The driver was arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail.

Another earlier stop on the morning of August 25,  a Trooper stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation.  During the traffic stop the Trooper became suspicious of criminal activity and asked about illegal content inside the vehicle.  The driver stated he had small amounts of marijuana.  IMG_1886During the search, Troopers located approximately 20 pounds of methamphetamine in a piece of luggage on the rear seat.  The State Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene and is currently investigating the incident.  The 32 year old male was arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail.
