Daily Flood Situation Report May 5

Region 1 Davis County Update The rip rap placed along the river bank on the evening of 5/3/23 to protect the WBWCD’s water line appears to be holding well, but there is 18 inches of additional erosion to the eastern portion of the river bank that isn’t armored. DCPW and WBWCD agreed to pool resources to continue the mitigation work 5/4/23. The plan is to stockpile rock and cement at a staging area under the Adams Parkway overpass so equipment operators have it readily available to place as needed. UDOT and RMP have both been notified of poetnail risks to their infrastructure and RMP inspected the site on 5/3. South Weber and Unitah cities are also both coordinating. The Centennial Trail is closed to the public in this area and the WBWCD water line remains shut off as a precaution but no water users are without service, as they are back fed. [LNO Correspondence] Weber County New The Bureau of Reclamation is actively monitoring the Causey Reservoir, which is filling rapidly and will begin releasing water over the spillway adding additional flows into the South Fork of the Ogden River. The reservoir was expected to begin spilling overnight on 5/4/23. Residents in the area have already sandbagged. [LNO Correspondence] Cache County Active The Bureau of Reclamation, Utah Division of Water Resources, and Cache County are actively monitoring the Hyrum Dam for potential high-flow releases in the Little Bear River. [Bureau of Reclamation, Interagency Correspondence]Active Due to the heavy snowpack, the county has also determined that it is necessary and appropriate to extend the seasonal restrictions on county roads to motorized vehicles until at least May 15th. The Utah Dept. of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) are actively working a mission to move the cattle to higher ground. Currently, the main activity associated with this is procuring cattle trucks to transport the impacted cattle. [UDAF]
Region 2 Salt Lake County Active Sugar House Park will be closed to vehicles through at least May 14th as controlled releases from Mountain Dell and Little Dell Reservoirs continue. [SLCo Parks & Recreation Twitter]Active SR-190 and SR-210 are being closely monitored and assessed daily to determine if/when road closures are needed for land/mudslides, avalanches or other hazards. Closures possible at any time, be prepared & check road status. [UDOT Cottonwood Canyons] Utah County Active Nightly closures of Highway 89 at Highway 6 are expected. Region 4 Garfield County Update Old Town Hatch – Structures threatened. The river banks are eroding quickly due to the water taking out the trees that hold the banks.
