Daily Flood Situation Report May 18

Significant State Activity

Update House Joint Resolution 101 passed on 5/17/23 which extends the State Emergency Declaration until August 15, 2023. [Utah Legislature]

Other Immediate Concerns
Active The most significant rises are forecasted for the South Fork of the Ogden River and the Sevier River near Hatch. See Flood Warnings here [NWS Twitter]
Active Snowmelt due to warm temperatures and upstream dam releases will continue to result in increased river flows. Some reported flood-related landslides are being monitored.
Region 1
Rich County
New Woodruff experienced minor flooding across SR-16 with an inch or two high of water and a span of 40’. [LNO, UHP]
Cache County
Active The Bureau of Reclamation, Utah Division of Water Resources, and Cache County are actively monitoring the Hyrum Dam for potential high-flow releases into the Little Bear River. [Bureau of Reclamation, Interagency Correspondence]
Weber County
Active The Bureau of Reclamation is actively monitoring the Causey Reservoir, overflow into the spillway began during the morning of 5/4/23 and is ongoing.  [Bureau of Reclamation, LNO Correspondence]
Morgan County
Active Weber Water Basin will be increasing the release at Lost Creek and East Canyon. The rivers below are already running at capacity and will be monitored closely. [LNO Correspondence]
Region 2
Salt Lake County
New Big Cottonwood Creek is forecast to approach minor flood stage by the end of next week. [NWS]
Active Sugar House Park loop road remains closed to vehicles until further notice. [SLCo Parks and Recreation Twitter]
Active SR-190 and SR-210 are being monitored and assessed daily to determine if/when road closures are needed for land/mudslides, avalanches, or other hazards. Closures are possible at any time. [UDOT Cottonwood Canyons]
Summit County
New The culverts near Old Ranch Road are at maximum capacity, and the county is actively sandbagging the road. [LNO]
Active In the Town of Echo, there is currently a public notice to boil water due to contamination from flooding. [DEQ Correspondence]
Utah County
Active US-89 is closed until further notice at MP 311 (Thistle) due to flooding and at MP 11 due to concerns of a landslide. [UHP]
Active In Vivian Park, there is currently a public notice to boil water due to contamination from flooding. [DEQ Correspondence]
Wasatch County
Active Daniel Creek is overflowing outside of its banks by Charleston and SR-113. UDOT has been on scene placing sandbags next to the road. [LNO Correspondence]
Region 3 No significant updates to report at this time.
Region 4
Garfield County
Active The Sevier River is over its banks in some areas and flooding low-lying areas. Actions are being taken locally to protect threatened property. [LNO Correspondence]
Region 5
Uintah County
Active Big Brush Creek is at full capacity and is being monitored for road and culvert washout on Island Park Road. [LNO Correspondence]
Active Green River in Jensen is forecasted to increase to above flood stage (10.8ft) around Thursday or Friday. [LNO Correspondence]
Region 6/7
Grand & Emery County
Active The Tusher Dam on the Green River is atrisk of breaching in the next week. It has not yet been breached. Temporary emergency levees have been made, and no infrastructure or homes are threatened at this time. [LNO Correspondence]

No significant updates to report at this time.
