Daily Flood Situation Report May 21
| Region 1 Cache County Active Logan Ranger District High Creek Road is closed from Forest boundary to High Creek Trailhead to any type of motorized vehicle. The road was scheduled to open on 5/15, but the road will remain closed due to wet, muddy, and flooding conditions. [Uinta-Wasatch-Cache USDA Forest Service] Active The Bureau of Reclamation, Utah Division of Water Resources, and Cache County are actively monitoring the Hyrum Dam for potential high-flow releases into the Little Bear River. [Bureau of Reclamation, Interagency Correspondence] Davis County Active The closure at NB I-15 MP 321 (Glover’s Lane) has been reopened, the roadway is dry at this point. Crew moved the concrete barriers further out towards the fog line and placed sand bags to divert the water to the drains. UDOT will continue to monitor the area [UHP, LNO Correspondence][1] Weber County Active The Bureau of Reclamation is actively monitoring the Causey Reservoir; overflow into the spillway began during the morning of 5/4/23 and is ongoing. | Region 2 Salt Lake County Active In anticipation of higher levels of runoff and the potential for flooding incidents in multiple locations throughout the county, Salt Lake County will temporarily move its Flood Control base of operations to Wheeler Farm, a Salt Lake County park that also serves as a detention basin. See media advisory [Salt Lake County PIO] Active Big Cottonwood Creek is forecast to approach minor flood stage by the end of next week. [NWS] Active Sugar House Park loop road remains closed to vehicles until further notice. [SLCo Parks and Recreation Twitter] Active SR-190 and SR-210 are being monitored and assessed daily to determine if/when road closures are needed for land/mudslides, avalanches, or other hazards. Closures are possible at any time. [UDOT Cottonwood Canyons] Summit County Active The culverts near Old Ranch Road are at maximum capacity. The County’s sandbagging efforts are holding. [LNO Correspondence] Active In the Town of Echo, there is currently a public notice to boil water due to contamination from flooding. [DEQ Correspondence] Utah County As of 4/6/23, there has been a public notice to boil water in Vivian Park due to storage tank damage caused by an avalanche on 3/23/23. [DEQ Correspondence][2] Wasatch County Active Wasatch County coordinated with the Heber Valley Railroad to sandbag along the channel just north of Edward’s Lane. The flood channel overflowed its banks. Public works prepared to strengthen the bank that is being eroded away just east of Casperville Road. They will place concrete barriers on Monday. [LNO Correspondence] Active The engineers were expected 5/18/23 to evaluate Snake Creek and the County is awaiting the engineer’s evaluation. [LNO Correspondence] Active Daniels Creek is overflowing outside its banks by Charleston and SR-113. UDOT has been on scene placing sandbags next to the road, which is expected to be completed on Monday. [LNO Correspondence] |
| Region 3 Piute County Active Otter Creek and Piute Reservoirs are nearing capacity. When they fill, and water goes over the spillways, this will add significantly to the already overflowing Sevier River. This will most likely cause issues along the river channel as it flows through Sevier County into Yuba Reservoir in Juab County. [LNO Correspondence] Active Sevier County is in the process of renting equipment that they can use to remove several sandbars in the river channel. This will help increase the holding and flow capacity of the river. There is also a good chance businesses will be affected in Marysvale Canyon as the river flows out of Piute County. | Region 4 Garfield County Active The Sevier River is over its banks in some areas and flooding low-lying areas. Actions are being taken locally to protect threatened property. [LNO Correspondence] |
| Region 5 Uintah County Active Big Brush Creek/Ashley Creek are still running at full capacity. [LNO Correspondence]Active Green River flooded the Deer Lodge Campground. The campground is closed at this time. Further downstream in Red Wash area, the river has come over the banks as well. Some residents are experiencing minor flooding in yards. | Region 6/7 Grand & Emery County Active The Tusher Dam on the Green River is atrisk of breaching in the next week. It has not yet been breached. Temporary emergency levees have been made, and no infrastructure or homes are threatened at this time. [LNO Correspondence] |
