Commissioner Keith D. Squires reappointed as the Commissioner of the Utah Department of Public Safety

The Utah State Senate confirmed the reappointment of Commissioner Keith Squires to another four-year term as the Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety (DPS).  Commissioner Squires was first appointed as DPS Commissioner in June of 2013 by Governor Gary R. Herbert and was nominated recently for reappointment to the position.

“Keith has been dedicated to protecting the people of Utah for over 30 years, and never more so than in his role as Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety,” said Gov. Herbert. “Because of Keith’s vision and leadership, Utah serves as national example of how state and local law enforcement communities can effectively collaborate for the better good. I look forward to continued partnership with Keith as we work together to meet the public safety challenges of our day with thoughtfulness and dignity.”

 

Commissioner Squires serves as the Governor’s Homeland Security Advisor and has extensive experience in state and local law enforcement and public safety services. Squires holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a master’s degree in Homeland Security and Defense from the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School. He is a 2004 graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. He is also a 2014 graduate of the FBI National Executive Institute.

Commissioner Squires is responsible for the Utah Department of Public Safety, which consists of the Utah Highway Patrol, State Bureau of Investigation, State Crime Lab, Statewide Information and Analysis Center, Bureau of Criminal Identification, State Fire Marshal’s Office, Division of Emergency Management, Peace Officer Standards and Training, Driver License Division and Highway Safety Division
