Preparedness Program Be Ready Utah Celebrates 10 Years

Flooding in St. George in 2005 and Hurricane Katrina were devastating for so many reasons.  Ten years ago both disasters led then Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert to create the Be Ready Utah program within our Division of Emergency Management to promote personal preparedness for Utah families, schools, businesses and communities.

The more people prepare, the less they have to rely on government or other services and the better they can help neighbors, co-workers and family when disaster strikes.

Now, Be Ready Utah is thriving as the State’s emergency preparedness program, teaching Utahns to make an emergency plan, get an emergency kit, be informed about disasters and get involved. One example is the Great Utah ShakeOut, happening April 21. Register today and join 750,000 other Utahns in preparing for earthquakes.

To get your preparedness info, check out the Be Ready Utah website or follow them everywhere on social media by searching for BeReadyUtah and the hashtag #BeReady10th. Happy birthday, Be Ready Utah!
